Coahuila's Labor Market Shows Historic Low Turnover Amid Burnout Surge

Labor turnover in Coahuila's industrial centers has fallen to historic lows. In the Central region, the rate dropped from 6‑7% to under 1%, while the Southeast region remained between 1.5% and 2%. Union leader Mario Dante Galindo of the Confederación de Trabajadores de México (CTM) in Frontera noted the decline reflects longer job tenure, reduced hiring cycles and a cautious hiring climate amid lower production, steel and aluminium tariffs, the situation at Altos Hornos de México, and pending T‑MEC trade‑review outcomes.

At the same time, the state health system reports a growing “burnout epidemic.” The Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) recorded 1,270 burnout consultations from January 2021 to April 2026. The highest numbers came from Torreón (384 cases), followed by Piedras Negras (315) and Saltillo (247). Additional municipalities reported significant case counts, highlighting widespread occupational stress across both large cities and smaller towns. IMSS protocols involve comprehensive clinical assessment, differential diagnosis, psychological or psychiatric treatment, and workplace risk‑factor mitigation.
