Coal India supplies 322.90 million tonnes from April to August

Coal India supplied 322.90 million tonnes of coal during the April-August period of the current fiscal year, marking a 6.7 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. In August alone, supplies rose by 5.5 per cent. The Coal Ministry reported that coal stocks at pitheads remain at 76 million tonnes, with an additional 46 million tonnes of ready-to-mine exposure.

Regarding regional supply, the Ministry of Coal clarified that Punjab's power plants have adequate coal availability. Addressing reports of reduced power generation in the state, the Ministry noted that coal stocks at Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) plants stood at approximately 117 per cent of the normative requirement as of September 4. The Ministry attributed low generation levels in August to factors other than coal shortages, noting that independent power plants in the region maintained high plant load factors due to sufficient supplies.
