Brazilian musicians declare support for Lula reelection
Prominent Brazilian musicians have used recent concert stages to declare support for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s reelection in the 2026 elections.
During the Coala Festival in São Paulo, singer Maria Bethânia interrupted her performance to state, “Eu voto Lula presidente,” while making the ‘L’ gesture with her fingers. Similarly, Caetano Veloso expressed his support during a show in Taguatinga, Brasília, where he told the crowd “bora, Lula.” Veloso’s performance was attended by First Lady Janja Lula da Silva.
These endorsements follow a trend of cultural figures participating in political discourse. Other artists, such as Daniela Mercury at Rock in Rio, have also used their platforms to make political statements regarding Brazilian democracy and current political figures.
