Coalición Canaria rejects potential government pact with Vox
Coalición Canaria (CC) has announced it will not support a Spanish government led by the People's Party (PP) if it includes Vox in the executive. Cristina Valido, a nationalist candidate for Congress from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, stated that Vox's proposals threaten the specific rights of the Canary Islands and promote state recentralization.
Valido cited several red lines regarding Vox's positions, including their stance on the Canary Islands' Statute of Autonomy, immigration management, specific tax benefits for the archipelago, and recovery aid for La Palma. She also criticized the party's proposals regarding the privatization of pensions and potential budget cuts, which she deems incompatible with the interests of the islands.
While CC's Secretary General, Fernando Clavijo, has previously defended this stance, Valido noted that definitive negotiating lines will be established following the elections on November 29, once the composition of the Congress of Deputies is known.
