Coalición Vamos submits 70,000 signatures to Panama's Electoral Tribunal

The Coalición Vamos has formally submitted more than 70,000 signatures to Panama’s Electoral Tribunal (TE) to begin the process of being recognized as a political party in formation. Along with the signatures, the coalition submitted legal requirements including a request memorial, proposed statutes, a government plan, and a declaration of principles.

Juan Diego Vásquez, the president of the coalition, stated that the submission complies with current electoral laws. He noted that the signatures represent the hope for a different future for the country. The move follows the coalition's performance in the 2024 elections, where approximately 30 authorities, including deputies, mayors, and representatives, were elected through independent candidacy.

The filing occurs amidst ongoing debates in the National Assembly regarding electoral reforms. Representatives of Coalición Vamos expressed criticism of recent changes to the Electoral Code, suggesting that traditional parties are attempting to hinder new political participation.
