Coast Guard arrests wanted man in Kaohsiung and rescues endangered leatherback turtle

In Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Coast Guard officers arrested a man wanted by the Taiwan Chiatung District Prosecutors Office for involvement in a money laundering case. During identity checks at the Yongxin Fishing Port inspection station on October 25, officials identified the individual, surnamed Lo, as a fugitive. A joint operation involving two Coast Guard vessels was launched, leading to his arrest in the waters near the Yong'an Liquefaction Plant.

In a separate incident near Kousiliu, a fishing vessel accidentally caught an endangered leatherback turtle. The crew reported the catch to the Kousiliu Fishing Port inspection station. Due to the turtle's large size, measuring approximately 218 cm in length and 102 cm in width, Coast Guard personnel used a fish market crane to safely lift the animal ashore. After being assessed by marine conservation experts and treated for minor abrasions, the leatherback turtle was transported back to sea and released approximately 3.2 nautical miles offshore.
