Coast Guard detains Croatian cargo ship in Terracina

The Italian Coast Guard has ordered the administrative detention of a Croatian-flagged Ro-Ro Cargo vessel in the port of Terracina following a Port State Control inspection. The vessel, built in 2004, was identified for inspection via the European Maritime Safety Agency’s THETIS computer system.

Inspectors found that the ship lacked the Engine International Air Pollution Prevention (EIAPP) certificate for its main engines. This absence constitutes a violation of Annex VI of the MARPOL Convention, which regulates the prevention of air pollution from maritime activities. The lack of this specific certification alone was sufficient grounds for the vessel's detention.

Additionally, the inspection revealed that the cleanliness of the crew's living quarters did not meet the standards established by the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006. The ship is prohibited from departing until all identified irregularities are fully resolved and a follow-up inspection is successfully completed.
