Coast Guard Lieutenant killed in Washington state shooting
U.S. Coast Guard Lieutenant Connor Overstreet, 29, was fatally shot in a suspected random attack in the Bryn Mawr-Skyway neighborhood of Washington state. The incident occurred shortly before 12:40 a.m. on a Sunday, approximately 10 miles south of downtown Seattle.
The King County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide resulting from a gunshot wound to the chest. While first responders attempted life-saving measures after finding Overstreet in the roadway, the active-duty service member later died.
Overstreet was stationed at Air Station Ventura in California and was originally from Reno, Nevada. His remains were returned to the base with full honors on Friday. As of now, no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made. The King County Sheriff’s Office has established a tipline and is requesting surveillance footage from the area recorded between 12:30 a.m. and 1:15 a.m. during the time of the shooting. Overstreet’s family is offering an $11,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
