Coast Guard rescues cruise passenger off Civitavecchia

The Italian Coast Guard conducted an urgent medical rescue for a passenger on the cruise ship AIDAcosma during the night of September 2, 2026. The passenger, a Hungarian woman born in 1979, reportedly suffered a stroke while the vessel was en route from Civitavecchia to Ajaccio.

The alarm was received after midnight by the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (ITMRCC) in Rome. Following medical clearance from the International Radio Medical Centre (CIRM), the Coast Guard patrol boat SAR CP 891 was dispatched to intercept the ship, which was located approximately 25 nautical miles off the coast of Civitavecchia.

Coast Guard personnel successfully transferred the patient from the cruise ship to the patrol boat. The woman was then transported to the port of Civitavecchia, where emergency medical services were waiting to take her to the hospital for necessary treatment.
