Coast Guard rescues five people in Praia a Mare
The Italian Coast Guard rescued five people on August 25, 2026, after their pedal boat began taking on water near the Grotta Azzurra of Dino Island in Praia a Mare.
The rescue operation was coordinated by the Maritime District Office of Cetraro and the Port Authority of Vibo Valentia. Among those rescued was a young woman in her seventh month of pregnancy, as well as another woman who had fallen into the sea and was unable to swim, clinging to the vessel until help arrived.
All five individuals were brought aboard the Coast Guard vessel and received assistance from the crew. No further medical intervention was required, and all passengers were safely disembarked. Authorities have used the incident to remind the public to check vessel safety conditions and to use the emergency number 1530 in case of maritime difficulties.
