Coastal cleanup initiatives held in Spain to combat marine pollution

Environmental awareness initiatives took place across various Spanish coastal regions to combat marine pollution. In Benajarafe, Vélez-Málaga, more than one hundred participants, including students from local institutes, took part in a beach cleaning activity organized by the Europe Direct offices of the Málaga and Córdoba Provincial Councils, in collaboration with the Vélez-Málaga City Council.

As part of the ‘#EuBeachCleanUp’ campaign marking International Coastal Cleanup Day, participants collected 65 kilograms of waste, which was subsequently weighed and classified by type and origin. Local officials emphasized that environmental education is a primary tool for coastal protection and highlighted the importance of youth leadership in these efforts.

In Mallorca, the ‘Alerta Eco’ initiative was held at Playa de Palma. Organized by Europa FM Mallorca, the event involved dozens of participants of all ages who collected waste along the shoreline. The activity included support from the Palma City Council, the Mallorca Council, and various local businesses and associations, combining environmental action with community engagement and awareness regarding recycling and waste reduction.
