Corrientes lifts extraordinary fishing ban on the Paraná River

The Corrientes Directorate of Natural Resources has lifted the extraordinary fishing ban on sections of the Paraná River. The restriction, which had been in place for 20 days, was implemented to protect surubí and dorado species following an exceptional concentration of fish that increased their vulnerability to fishing pressure.

Following technical inspections and joint monitoring, authorities confirmed that these fish concentrations have dispersed, removing the primary cause for the environmental protection measure. As of September 29, 2026, at 1:00 PM, previous restrictive resolutions are void, and standard fishing modalities are restored. However, officials warned that new restrictions may be imposed if massive fish concentrations are detected again.

In a related development, tensions rose in the Paraná River near the capital of Corrientes. A group of approximately 20 canoes, reportedly carrying illegally caught surubí and dorado, resisted an operation by the Prefectura Naval Argentina. The group, which included armed individuals and minors, confronted officers to prevent the seizure of illegal catches. Due to the presence of minors, the Prefectura prioritized general safety and did not use force, opting instead to document the incident for subsequent legal and administrative sanctions.
