Coastal landscapes in Asturias and Galicia feature protected reserves and tidal coves

The coastal regions of Asturias and Galicia feature distinct natural landscapes, ranging from protected reserves to tide-dependent coves.

Playa de Arnao, located at the mouth of the Ría del Eo in Castropol, serves as a natural viewpoint between Asturias and Galicia. The beach is characterized by fine white sand and is part of the Ría del Eo Partial Natural Reserve, which includes European protections such as Special Areas of Conservation (ZEC) and Special Protection Areas for Birds (ZEPA). Management focuses on preserving dune flora and promoting non-invasive sustainable tourism.

In Ferrol, Galicia, the Lumebó cove offers a more rugged experience. This small beach, approximately 150 to 180 meters long, is only accessible during low tide, as the Atlantic Ocean covers much of the sand during high tide. Due to its location near Punta Penencia and the steep terrain, local tourism authorities describe access as “very difficult,” requiring visitors to plan according to tidal schedules.
