Coastal safety updates in Ortigueira and Mar del Plata
The municipality of Ortigueira in Spain has concluded its summer season with a positive report. Local authorities noted that the beaches remained safe and without major incidents, thanks to the coordinated efforts of lifeguards, Civil Protection, and local police. During the season, lifeguards at Morouzos and A Concha beaches recorded 73 first aid interventions, with only one complex rescue operation reported. The season also included special security measures for a total solar eclipse on August 12.
In Mar del Plata, Argentina, the Municipality of General Pueyrredon has announced a lifeguard schedule for October to address rising temperatures and increasing beach attendance. Daily patrols will be stationed at several high-traffic areas, including La Perla, Playa Grande, and Waikiki, from 11:00 to 17:00. This preparatory measure precedes the full summer operation, which is scheduled to run from November 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027.
