Coastal Senior College announces new George Orwell course

Coastal Senior College (CSC) has announced a new fall course titled ‘Warrior Against Fascism: George Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia and 1984’. The class will be taught by Geoffrey Robinson, a retired teacher and art dealer.

The curriculum focuses on Orwell’s experiences during the Spanish Civil War in ‘Homage to Catalonia’ and his dystopian novel ‘1984’, exploring the connections between the two works. Sessions are scheduled to take place at the Bremen Library on Fridays from September 18 through October 20.

CSC serves Lincoln and Knox Counties and is part of a statewide network of 17 volunteer-run senior colleges providing educational activities for individuals aged 50 and older. The fall schedule includes thirteen other classes covering subjects such as history, science, and human behavior, offered through in-person, Zoom, or hybrid formats.
