Coastal Spanish towns face summer parking and emergency access crises

Summer tourism is causing significant parking and accessibility issues in several Spanish coastal areas. In the La Arena neighborhood of Gijón, residents and visitors report extreme difficulty finding surface parking due to the area's central location near beaches and the historic district, compounded by many older buildings lacking private garages.

In Pinténs, located in the parish of O Hío in Cangas, the situation has escalated to safety concerns. Local residents have organized themselves to monitor streets and prevent illegal parking that blocks pedestrian paths and narrow access roads. Neighbors expressed particular concern that improperly parked vehicles could obstruct emergency services, noting that an ambulance required access to the area during a previous year. Residents have stated that previous complaints to local authorities have not yielded permanent solutions.
