Coastal weather shifts impact fishing in Florida and Maryland

Fishing conditions and weather patterns are shifting across the U.S. East Coast. In Central Florida, the week of September 29, 2026, is expected to begin with favorable marine conditions on Tuesday, featuring light winds and calm seas. However, moisture and onshore flow are projected to increase from Wednesday through the weekend, bringing southeast winds, higher seas, and scattered thunderstorms. Heat indices may reach between 100 and 105 degrees by the end of the week.

In Southern Maryland, fishing activity is rebounding following the dissipation of a nor’easter. The storm previously caused significant coastal flooding, with the National Weather Service issuing warnings for tides two to three feet above normal. Despite the recent weather disruptions, local anglers report high activity for species such as red drum, trout, spot, and bluefish in areas including the St. Mary’s River, the Potomac, and Breton Bay.
