Coatepec residents block Xalapa–Coatepec highway over road conditions

Residents of Pacho Viejo and La Laguna in the municipality of Coatepec have blocked the Xalapa–Coatepec highway to demand the rehabilitation of the Coatepec–Pacho Viejo road section. Protesters claim the current state of the asphalt poses a significant risk to travelers and that previous dialogues with municipal and state authorities have failed to produce concrete results.

The blockade, which includes the use of stones, ropes, sticks, and vehicles, has caused significant traffic congestion for private vehicles, public transport, and freight trucks. Demonstrators have stated they will not lift the blockade until a representative from the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP) arrives to provide a specific date for the commencement of repair works.

Elements of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) have arrived at the scene and are stationed near the blockade, though no eviction operation has been reported at this time.
