The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall of Coaticook brand cheddar cheeses distributed in Quebec after testing indicated possible contamination with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. The recall, initiated by the producer Laiterie de Coaticook, covers a range of block and grain cheeses weighing from 50 g to 2.27 kg, including plain, spicy, hickory, onion and dill varieties. Affected products are marked with a “refrigerate after 24 July 2026, best before 8 August 2026” label.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled cheeses are instructed to discard them or return them to the place of purchase. The CFIA warns that Listeria can cause vomiting, fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness, and is especially dangerous for pregnant women. No cases of illness have been reported to date, and a food‑safety investigation is ongoing.
