Coatzacoalcos City Council calls for cemetery vault regularization
The Coatzacoalcos City Council has issued a call to families to regularize burial vaults in municipal cemeteries. Flor Patricia Jiménez, head of Panteones, reported that between 10% and 12% of the nearly 10,000 tombs in the Lomas de Barrillas cemetery are damaged or abandoned.
Authorities are seeking to locate relatives to ensure proper documentation and maintenance of these spaces. Officials noted that the right to perpetuity is lost after 10 years, though some families have successfully regularized spaces after several decades. The city currently records between three and six burials per week.
