Cobán Imperial defeats Deportivo Mixco 3-2 in dramatic Liga Nacional match

Cobán Imperial secured its first victory of the Apertura 2026 tournament with a dramatic 3-2 win against Deportivo Mixco during the fourth round of the Guatemalan Liga Nacional. The match, held at the Estadio Verapaz José Ángel Rossi, featured significant momentum shifts and disciplinary issues.

Byron Leal opened the scoring for Cobán Imperial in the 10th minute. Mixco faced early adversity when Jorge Sotomayor was sent off in the 36th minute for an aggression, leaving the visitors with ten players. Cobán Imperial extended their lead in the 47th minute through Brian Calabrese, but Mixco managed to stay competitive despite the numerical disadvantage.

Mixco began a comeback with a goal by Yonathan Pozuelos in the 73rd minute, followed by a 2-2 equalizer from Cristian Jiménez in the 89th minute. However, Blady Aldana scored the decisive winning goal for Cobán Imperial in the 98th minute. With this result, Cobán Imperial reaches four points in the championship.
