Coca-Cola faces backlash over religious content filter
Coca-Cola is facing accusations of religious bias and calls for a boycott following viral social media videos involving its online can personalisation tool. Content creators and users shared screen recordings appearing to show the tool rejecting Christian phrases such as ‘Jesus is King’ or ‘Jesus is good’, while accepting phrases like ‘Satan is King’, ‘The devil is king’, or ‘I love Satan’.
Some reports indicated that the tool also blocked other religious references, such as ‘Allah is Lord’, while allowing phrases like ‘God is Dead’. While Coca-Cola’s official guidelines prohibit religious and political content on personalised products, the inconsistent application of the automated filter has sparked significant backlash from Christian consumers.
Similar controversies regarding the tool's filtering system surfaced in late 2024. The company has attributed these discrepancies to technical errors.
