Cocaine seizure of over a ton at Lázaro Cárdenas port in Mexico

Mexican authorities seized approximately 1,187 kilograms of cocaine aboard a merchant vessel at the Lázaro Cárdenas port. The operation was led by the Navy's Port Protection Unit (UNAPROP) with participation from the Federal Prosecutor's Office, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, and maritime customs. Twenty containers were inspected using specialized detection dogs, and the seized drug was handed over to the public prosecutor for investigation.

The seizure represents an economic impact of more than 250 million pesos and prevented the distribution of over two million doses, valued at over 259 million pesos, on the streets. Officials highlighted the effectiveness of inter‑agency coordination in safeguarding ports and curbing illicit drug flows.

The case underscores Mexico's ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking through maritime surveillance and joint operations among security and customs agencies.
