Cocapata: Three-year-old girl dies of hypothermia after bus stranded in snow

A three-year-old girl has died from hypothermia after a bus carrying her family became stranded in heavy snow in the Cocapata municipality, Cochabamba department. The incident occurred on the stretch between the K’ala Cruz and K’utini sectors.

Passengers were forced to spend the night in extreme sub-zero temperatures after snow blocked the road, making travel impossible. While waiting for assistance, passengers reportedly struggled to melt snow for water and organized communal meals to survive. Some passengers eventually left the vehicle on foot to seek help.

Departmental assemblyman Edwin Jiménez confirmed the child's death following a visit to the site. Emergency personnel and machinery from the Suticollo camp were deployed to clear the snow and restore road transitability.
