Cocconato revitalizes Monferrato village through culinary and artisanal initiatives

Cocconato, a village in the Monferrato region of Asti, is undergoing a cultural and economic revitalization through a “diffuse village” model. Recognized as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages and an Orange Flag recipient since 2008, the town is leveraging its local heritage, gastronomy, and landscape to attract visitors.

Led by entrepreneur and gelato maker Alberto Marchetti, the initiative involves local artisans and restaurateurs to create a network of culinary and artisanal experiences. This includes specialized shops, pasta makers, and eateries that highlight regional products such as Barbera wine, hazelnuts, and local meats. The village’s historical identity is marked by its 15th-century town hall, 17th-century pharmacy, and a prominent crenelated tower that offers views across the Piedmont region.
