Cochabamba begins remodeling of Las Banderas and El Prado
The Cochabamba Municipal Government has launched a comprehensive remodeling project for the El Prado promenade and the Las Banderas plaza. The initiative covers a total area of 4,068.55 square meters and aims to improve the physical, aesthetic, and security conditions of these iconic tourist locations.
The first phase focuses on the Carlos Montenegro plaza, commonly known as Las Banderas, located between Oruro, La Paz, Chuquisaca, and Plaza Colón streets. Mayor Manfred Reyes Villa inspected the start of works, which include the demolition and removal of deteriorated flooring to make way for new pedestrian infrastructure. The project includes installing 2,552.11 square meters of new granite tile, new benches, railings, inclusive ramps, and a modernized lighting system. Additionally, a new sculpture featuring the Cochabamba shield will be placed in the plaza's fountain, replacing the current cultural representation.
The first phase has a budget of 3.1 million Bolivianos and is expected to take 58 days to complete. The second phase will involve the El Prado promenade.
