Cochabamba Governor Leonardo Loza faces political criticism

Cochabamba Governor Leonardo Loza is facing criticism from regional officials regarding both land management and national security policies. Departmental assemblyman Edwin Jiménez has questioned a recent agreement signed by Loza with Transporte Libre to relocate the Chapare bus stop to the Ayacucho and Aroma areas. Jiménez requested a formal report to determine the legal basis for the move, suggesting the action could constitute “arbitrary disposal of State assets” or “influence peddling.”

Separately, Governor Loza has publicly rejected the central government's decision to extend the State of Exception for an additional 90 days. Loza argued that the measure has failed to address critical national issues, such as the shortage of fuel and the rising exchange rate of the dollar.

While Loza criticizes the extension, he remains a figure of political contention. He has faced accusations from government ministers and assemblymen of supporting road blockades that initially prompted the State of Exception. Specifically, assemblyman Joel Flores has filed criminal charges against Loza and other leaders for allegedly promoting these transit disruptions.
