Cochabamba inaugurates Bolivia’s first public artificial beach

The city of Cochabamba has inaugurated the Coña Coña Recreational Complex, featuring the country’s first public-access artificial beach, known as Playa Turquesa. The project, driven by the Autonomous Municipal Government of Cochabamba, involved an investment of approximately Bs 24,564,348.92 and covers a surface area of over 27,000 square meters.

The complex includes a 7,480-square-meter artificial beach with turquoise water, sand, and palm trees, capable of accommodating 3,065 people. Facilities consist of varying water depths, two beach volleyball courts, children's play areas, and a food plaza for 650 people. To ensure maintenance, the aquatic area was waterproofed with high-density geomembranes and is supplied by four wells.

During the opening ceremony on September 27, Mayor Manfred Reyes Villa announced that the first ten visitors would receive free admission for one year. Following the inaugural period, the complex will operate from Tuesday to Sunday with a general admission fee of Bs 40 per person.
