Cochabamba inmate dies after hospital denies medical care

An inmate from the San Sebastián prison died in Cochabamba after being denied medical attention at the Hospital Viedma. According to preliminary police reports, the individual suffered from respiratory failure and was transported by police and firefighters to the hospital on Friday, October 2.

Upon arrival, medical staff reportedly stated there was no available space and instructed the crew to wait. Despite urgent requests from police officers for immediate assistance as the inmate struggled to breathe, medical personnel allegedly ignored the pleas. The inmate passed away inside the ambulance. While hospital staff later claimed the individual arrived dead, police officers present disputed this account. The Homicide Division of the FELCC has transferred the body to the IDIF for an autopsy.
