Cochamó Municipality Grants First Student Scholarships to 34 Local Students

The municipal government of Cochamó, Chile, delivered the inaugural 2026 Municipal Student Contribution, providing a one‑time grant of 200,000 Chilean pesos to each of 34 students ranging from primary to university level. The aid is intended to cover travel, food, lodging and other study‑related expenses, especially for those living in remote areas or attending institutions outside the commune.

Mayor Francisco Donoso highlighted the program’s role in fostering education as a development engine, stating, "Son estudiantes, que con esfuerzo y sacrificio, ven en la educación el motor necesario para salir adelante…" Social worker Jennifer Améstica explained that applications are evaluated case‑by‑case based on demonstrated family need.

The scheme marks the first municipal scholarship in Cochamó, with plans to expand coverage and invite more applicants for the following year.
