Cochin International Airport accuses SpiceJet of spreading misinformation
Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has accused budget carrier SpiceJet of spreading misinformation regarding recent flight disruptions at the Kochi-based airport. The dispute follows a series of cancellations and delays that have impacted numerous passengers.
SpiceJet attributed the disruptions to bad weather in Kochi, air traffic congestion, and infrastructure constraints. However, CIAL has categorically refuted these claims, stating there were no adverse weather conditions in the region to warrant such disruptions. The airport operator noted that no other airlines operating from Kochi reported similar weather-related issues during the same period.
CIAL further alleged that SpiceJet has failed to provide the mandatory 60-day notice required under the airport’s slot allocation policy for reducing flight frequencies. The airport operator characterized the airline's justifications as “baseless claims” intended to deflect from internal operational challenges and scheduling practices.
