Cochin Shipyard delivers MS Maria to HS Schiffahrts

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has delivered the MS Maria, the second of eight HS EcoFreighter series multi-purpose vessels, to the German company HS Schiffahrts UG (haftungsbeschränkt) & Co. KG. The delivery and acceptance protocol was signed in India by CSL Director of Operations Dr. S. Harikrishnan and HS Schiffahrts Director Heinz Josef Schepers.

Designed by Groot Ship Design in the Netherlands and constructed according to DNV classification rules, the 7,000 DWT ice-class vessel is built for versatile international trade. It is capable of transporting project cargo, heavy cargo, steel coils, containers, timber, paper, dry bulk such as coal and grain, and dangerous goods.

The vessel features a single large cargo hold with six movable panels for flexible configurations and a specialized raked stem design intended to optimize speed and fuel efficiency. Propulsion is provided by a medium-speed four-stroke diesel engine driving a controllable pitch propeller.
