Cochin Shipyard Secures ₹2,000 Crore Expansion at VOC Port and Launches 1 MW Solar Tender

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) won the highest bid for a 30‑year lease at V. O. Chidambaranar Port Authority in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The company will develop a shipbuilding and repair yard on 49 hectares of land and 7 hectares of waterfront, paying an upfront premium of ₹306.31 crore and planning an investment of about ₹2,000 crore. The expansion is part of CSL’s strategy to broaden its capacity beyond its Kochi yard and aligns with India’s goal of becoming a top‑ten shipbuilding nation by 2030.

Separately, CSL issued a sealed‑bid tender for a 1 MWp grid‑connected rooftop solar power plant at its Cochin facility. The turnkey project, valued at roughly ₹4.37 crore, will cover rooftops up to 25 m high. Bids must be submitted by 31 August 2026, with technical evaluation on 1 September and a 270‑day completion period after award. The solar initiative aims to increase CSL’s renewable‑energy usage.
