Cochlear Ltd shares rebound following significant annual decline
Cochlear Ltd shares have seen a modest recovery, rising 2% to $129.63, marking a five-day gain of 6%. This rebound follows a significant period of volatility where the healthcare stock lost 58% of its value over the past year.
The previous decline was triggered in April when the company reduced its FY26 underlying net profit guidance by approximately 30%, from a range of $435 million to $460 million down to $290 million to $330 million. Management attributed the downturn to several factors, including lower cochlear implant volumes in developed markets, hospital capacity constraints in Europe, weaker referral activity, an unfavorable Australian dollar, and order cancellations related to conflict in the Middle East.
Investors are now looking toward the FY26 results due on August 18. Key areas of focus include whether the company can meet its revised profit guidance, the market traction of its Nexa smart cochlear implant, and the outlook for FY27 guidance.
