Codacons proposes improvements for Italy's minor islands

The consumer rights association Codacons has submitted five proposals to the Italian national government and the Sicilian Region to improve living conditions on minor islands. The initiative follows the States General of Minor Marine Islands held in Lipari.

The proposals focus on reorganizing maritime connections, establishing emergency plans for severe weather, strengthening ship efficiency inspections, verifying recent infrastructure interventions, and enhancing healthcare assistance. Codacons highlighted recent disruptions in the Aeolian archipelago caused by adverse weather, which impacted food supplies and the rotation of medical personnel.

Francesco Tanasi, national secretary of Codacons, emphasized the need for verifiable results and cited Article 119 of the Constitution, which recognizes the specific needs of island communities to mitigate disadvantages caused by insularity.
