Codacons warns of high Christmas flight costs in Italy

The consumer association Codacons has released a study highlighting significantly high domestic flight tariffs for the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays. The report indicates that travelers flying from Northern Italy to Southern regions are facing substantial costs for round-trip tickets scheduled between December 23 or 24 and January 6.

Among the most expensive routes is Milan to Reggio Calabria, with prices starting at 427 euros. Other high-cost connections include Milan to Trapani at 383 euros, and various flights from Turin to Reggio Calabria, Catania, and Brindisi ranging from 349 to 359 euros. Travelers flying from Florence to Palermo face minimum fares of 345 euros, while routes from Verona, Bologna, and Venice to Catania start at 340 euros.

Codacons warns that these base fares do not include additional expenses for carry-on luggage or seat selection, which further increase the total cost. The association noted that these prices particularly penalize students and workers living away from home, as well as families attempting to reunite during the holidays. Experts suggest that prices are likely to rise further as the holiday season approaches and demand increases.
