Codeba and MIDR plan to reactivate São Francisco Waterway

The Federal Port Authority of Brazil (Codeba) and the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR) are coordinating efforts to resume traffic on the São Francisco Waterway. Following studies conducted by the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP), a fluvial intervention proposal has been developed for the São Francisco River in Bom Jesus da Lapa.

The project aims to promote environmental conservation, revitalize river basins, and improve navigability through integrated actions. The total reactivation project for the São Francisco Waterway is estimated to require approximately R$ 6 billion in investments.

In the current recovery phase at Bom Jesus da Lapa, an initial investment of approximately R$ 130 million (or USD 25.4 million) is planned for studies and bioengineering to ensure project viability. This specific phase is set to be executed by AXIA Energia.
