Codelco partners with Valora Más for tire recycling

Codelco has entered into a strategic agreement with the collective management system Valora Más to improve the handling and recycling of end-of-life tires (NFU), specifically Category A tires used in smaller vehicles and mining support equipment.

The initiative aligns with Chile’s Extended Producer Responsibility Law (Ley REP) and Codelco’s circular economy strategy. The agreement provides two operational pathways: Codelco can deliver used tires to the collective system for recycling at zero cost, or it can monetize tires processed by the company itself by receiving a fee per kilogram managed, provided there is full traceability and documentation.

Initial results have been recorded at the El Teniente Division, where more than 1,500 tons of Category A tires have already been valued and documented. This volume presents potential economic benefits for the company through the established monetization mechanism.
