CODHEM inspects Santiaguito prison over alleged irregular charges
The Human Rights Commission of the State of Mexico (CODHEM) has conducted an inspection of the Almoloya de Juárez Penitentiary and Social Reintegration Center, commonly known as ‘Santiaguito’. The investigation was launched following journalistic reports regarding alleged irregular charges within the facility.
During the inspection, CODHEM officials examined entry areas, visitor registration, food and hygiene product inspections, and family visitation spaces. The commission also conducted random interviews with family members to assess the application of security filters.
CODHEM has requested precautionary measures to protect the rights of visitors and to ensure a dignified and safe environment for the prison population. The findings from the testimonies and observations will be evaluated to determine if any human rights violations occurred.
