CODIA to deploy 179 engineers to assess Dominican school infrastructure
The Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (CODIA) will integrate 179 engineers to evaluate and address the deterioration of school infrastructure across the country. Enrique Rosario García, president of CODIA, announced that an agreement will be signed with the School Infrastructure Directorate in the coming weeks to conduct technical assessments and identify necessary corrective maintenance.
Rosario García also raised concerns regarding previous government contracts from the administration of former President Danilo Medina. He noted that hundreds of professionals were contracted for works that have not commenced, despite some contractors having received advances of up to 20 percent of the total contract value. Additionally, he criticized the use of “standardized works” (obras tipo) models, arguing that their rigid budgets failed to account for specific topographical conditions, leading to technically unfeasible designs.
