Codopyme opposes large companies in Inabie school programs

The Dominican Confederation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Codopyme) has rejected the participation of large companies and importers in school supply programs managed by the National Institute of Student Welfare (Inabie).

Codopyme President Fernando Pinales stated that these programs were originally designed to support national production and MSMEs. He argued that the entry of large corporations and the importation of school supplies, such as uniforms, backpacks, and footwear, threatens local businesses.

Currently, approximately 2,500 MSMEs serve as Inabie suppliers, accounting for over 90% of the institution's providers. These businesses participate in various programs, including school breakfasts, lunches, and extended day services, which collectively generate more than 30,000 direct jobs.
