Cody Bellinger wins Fielding Bible Award amid Yankees offensive scrutiny

Cody Bellinger has been named the winner of the 2026 Fielding Bible Award for left field, receiving 14 of 17 first-place votes from an independent panel. The award recognizes the top defender at each position across both major leagues.

The recognition comes as New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner expressed public disappointment regarding the team's offensive performance. Following a postseason sweep by the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS, Steinbrenner criticized the offense, which scored only five runs across three games.

While Bellinger provided stability in a battered outfield, his offensive production—hitting .264 with 17 home runs—has been a point of debate following his five-year, $162.5 million contract. The team's struggles have also placed hitting coach James Rowson and assistants Casey Dykes and Jake Hirst under scrutiny.
