Cody Gakpo discusses failed Manchester City move and recent injury

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has addressed his near-transfer to Manchester City this summer, describing the period as “very tough” for him and his family following the personal loss of their unborn son. Gakpo confirmed that a potential £80 million move to City collapsed after Liverpool reversed their initial stance on allowing him to leave.

In recent international duty, Gakpo suffered an injury during the Netherlands' UEFA Nations League match against Serbia. He was forced off in the 17th minute following a heavy challenge from Saša Lukić. The injury, involving his left ankle, has caused concern for Liverpool ahead of their upcoming Premier League fixture against Manchester City, especially as teammate Alexander Isak is also dealing with fitness issues.

Despite the summer uncertainty and previous criticism regarding his form, Gakpo has enjoyed a strong start to the current campaign, contributing several goals and assists for Liverpool.
