Cofepris issues alerts for adulterated and counterfeit medications in Mexico
Mexico’s Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) has issued sanitary alerts regarding the adulteration and falsification of several medications.
Sanofi Aventis de México reported that batches CMXA036 and CMXA037 of ADerogyl (Retinol, Ascorbic Acid, Ergocalciferol) oral solution have been adulterated. The anomalies include ampoules lacking expiration dates, despite the original expiration being June 2024. Because of these discrepancies, the identity, purity, and efficacy of these specific batches cannot be guaranteed.
Additionally, Cofepris identified counterfeit versions of Darzalex (daratumumab) 400 mg/20 mL, used for bone marrow cancer, and Simponi (golimumab) 50 mg/0.5 mL, used for rheumatoid arthritis. Janssen-Cilag confirmed that certain batch numbers associated with these products have no manufacturing or release records. The health authority has advised the public, distributors, and pharmaceutical establishments to avoid purchasing or using these irregular products due to potential health risks.
