Coffee consumption and its effects on antioxidants and collagen
Recent scientific discussions have addressed how coffee consumption affects antioxidants and collagen. Regarding milk, research suggests that dairy proteins may bind to coffee polyphenols and modify their behavior, but this does not necessarily neutralize them. Laboratory studies have even shown certain combinations might maintain antioxidant capacity, though more research is needed to confirm these effects in humans.
In terms of skin health, dermatologists note that while caffeine might potentially slow collagen production at high levels of consumption, coffee also contains antioxidants that can benefit the skin. Dr. Gary Goldenberg of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai indicates that coffee's antioxidants may help prevent skin aging. The primary concern for collagen and skin firmness often stems from excessive additives like sugar, cream, and caramel rather than the coffee itself.
