Coffee consumption linked to lower cardiometabolic disease risk

A study published in Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Disease suggests that regular coffee consumption may reduce the risk of cardiometabolic multimorbidity (MMC), which involves having multiple conditions such as heart attack, stroke, or type 2 diabetes.

Analyzing data from over 185,000 participants via the UK Biobank, researchers found that coffee consumption was associated with a lower risk across various stages of MMC development. The protective effects were most notable in individuals consuming coffee without sugar. In contrast, coffee with sugar showed benefits only at low doses, while artificially sweetened versions yielded inconsistent results. Medical professionals advise consulting a healthcare provider before increasing coffee intake, particularly for those with existing conditions like arrhythmias.
