Coffee consumption linked to lower risk of Parkinson's disease

Research indicates that moderate coffee intake may reduce the likelihood of developing Parkinson's disease and could also lower the risk of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Coffee contains caffeine, antioxidants, chlorogenic acids and polyphenols that help reduce inflammation and protect brain cells. Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors, increasing alertness and influencing dopamine pathways, which are implicated in neurodegeneration. A comprehensive review in *Pharmacological Reviews* highlighted caffeine’s effects on brain signaling, blood flow and neuronal communication, providing a biological basis for its protective role. While coffee is not a cure, the strongest epidemiological evidence supports a protective association with Parkinson's disease, with additional but less conclusive data for other neurodegenerative conditions.
