Jakarta maintains bicycle lanes amid calls for better transit integration

The Jakarta Provincial Government has confirmed it will maintain the city's bicycle lanes, prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists within the urban transport hierarchy. While the lanes will remain, the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) plans to evaluate technical aspects, such as the use of stick cones and planter boxes, which have been identified as potential hazards to road users.

Local representatives, including the Deputy Chairperson of Commission B of the Jakarta DPRD, have called for these lanes to be better integrated with public transportation systems and residential areas. This comes amid a growing trend where bicycles are increasingly used for daily commuting and 'bike to work' activities rather than just for weekend recreation. Organizations like Bike to Work Indonesia continue to advocate for the expansion and improved connectivity of cycling infrastructure in the capital.
