Coffee diversity: Exploring the complex aromas and global impact of coffee

Coffee is a global staple, with approximately 2.6 billion cups consumed daily. In Germany, it is the most consumed beverage, with an average annual consumption of 163 liters per person.

Specialty coffee expert Stefan Dachale notes that high-quality coffee possesses hundreds of aromatic nuances, ranging from chocolate and jasmine to tropical fruits, potentially exceeding the complexity of wine. Dachale suggests that truly good coffee should be enjoyable black and even when cooled, without unpleasant acidity or metallic tones.

The global coffee supply chain involves significant international trade, with major production coming from Brazil (38 percent), Vietnam (21 percent), and Honduras (9 percent). More than 100 million people worldwide depend directly or indirectly on the coffee industry for their livelihoods.
