Coffee pricing debate over extra shot charges

A consumer in Mosman, NSW, questioned whether it is reasonable to request a discount when ordering a weak coffee. The individual argued that because they ordered a weak long black and a strong flat white, the cafe should not have charged an additional fee for the extra shot in the flat white, as the long black contained one fewer shot.

Columnist Danny Katz addressed the query, noting that while some cafe workers might waive the charge if asked politely, the logic of the request is flawed. Katz compared the expectation of a discount for a single-shot drink to expecting a discount on a double-sized bedsheet simply because it is being used on a single bed.
